Shaun Chornley
Program Director
Shaun grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he played minor, junior and senior hockey. When he completed his last year at the senior level, he decided to get into the operations side of the game. He obtained Canadian Amateur Hockey Association Coaching, and National In Line Hockey Association Instructor certifications, and coached various Winnipeg Bantam and Midget AA & AAA clubs.
He was the coordinator of the Learn to Skate and Hockey Skills Program for the City of Winnipeg, where he developed programs, placed instructors and evaluated the programs.
In 1995, Shaun joined the scouting staff of the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League. In 1997 he played on the Canadian National Bandy Team at the World Cup Tournament in Khabarovk, Russia. In 2002-2003 the Rockets won the League championship. In 2004 they won a Memorial Cup Championship, and won the Western Hockey League Championship again in 2005.
In Summer 2005, Shaun was hired by the OCN Blizzard in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League as their Head Scout. He is currently in his 13th year as a Player scout with the Kelowna Rockets. He is driven to assist young hockey players with developing their skills to move on to the next level. Through this passion, the Evolution Hockey Development program was created.
Thomas Steen
Program Director
Thomas Steen grew up in the small town of Grums, Sweden. Other NHL'ers such as Willy Lindstrom (Scout for Phoenix) and Steen's cousin Dan Labraten (scout for New Jersey) also call this small European town home. Steen moved to the Lehksand Elite team at 16 to study and played in the Elite league as the youngest player ever.
Steen made the Swedish National Team at 18 and also played for Farjestad and won the SWE Championship at the age of 20. He was then drafted by the Winnipeg Jets and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1981, and stayed with the Jets until 1995.
He played 3 years in Berlin and has coached and managed Frolunda Hockey Club in Sweden for 6 years (11 championships). Elite team, U20, U18, 1999-2005, and also scouted for the Minnesota Wild in various European countries.
He currently is a Player Scout with the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions Anaheim Ducks.
Bryan Trottier
Hockey Development Coordinator
Bryan Trottier grew up in Val Marie, Saskatchewan Canada. He played minor hockey in Swift Current and Lethbridge of the Western Hockey League and was drafted in 1974 by the New York Islanders as their 2nd pick, 22nd overall. Bryan Made a huge impact the first season, putting up 95 points and winning the Calder Trophy as best rookie in the NHL. Bryan excelled over the next decade, putting up consistent numbers, playing with an attitude steeped in hard work and playing two-way hockey. He was an integral part of the New York Islanders dynasty that won four Stanley Cups between 1980-83.
Bryan spent 15 years with the Islanders and left in 1990 as their all-time leading scorer. He signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins and his leadership is considered key in the Penguins back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships in 1991 and 1992. After three seasons in Pittsburgh he would retire from hockey as a player. He later joined the Penguins as an assistant coach. His coaching experience, also lead him to Colorado as an assistant, where he helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 2002. That experience lead to his hiring as the head coach of the New York Rangers in the 2002-2003 season.
Today Bryan is involved in hockey at all levels, and particularly enjoys working with minor hockey players. He is excited about his role as Hockey Development Coordinator, with Evolution Hockey Development. He looks forward to working with our participants and meeting their families.
Bryan is currently the Director of Hockey Development with the New York Islanders.
